Sending Your Digital Art Files |
With your assitance, The Printing Korner can work with you to meet all your
printing requirements in the most efficent way possible. |
Just A Reminder!
By properly preparing your files, you will save yourself, and us, a considerable amount of both time and money. The following checklist has been designed to help you in the process of sending files to The Printing Korner. |
Choosing the Right Application Programs
In order to reduce potential file outputting and press printing problems, please select the appropriate program to create your file. (Below is a list of program files we currently support.) |
Finished Artwork
By creating an output-ready file, you will not be charged extra system work which may be required. |
Colours
Please…
-
Use the correct PMS colour for spot colour printing.
-
Make sure you use consistent colour names between your layout file and associated files. For example, PMS 032, Pantone 032 and 032 are three different colour plates in file outputting even though they all have the same number, 032, for red. Only one of these names should be used in the sharing files.
-
Convert Pantone colour or RGB scans to CMYK for 4-colour printing,
-
Delete any unused colours from page layout colour palette.
-
Add 1/8" bleeds where necessary.
-
Finally, please DO NOT rely on the colour you proof on your monitor or the one produced on colour laser, inkjet and other digital proofing devices. Unfortunately, these devices do not provide an accurate representation of what our commercial offset press can print.
|

Fonts
Please…
-
Use TrueType fonts instead of PostScript Type fonts.
-
Try not to mix PostScript Type fonts and TrueType fonts in the same file.
-
Ensure that there are no 4-colour black types set in Photoshop.
-
DO NOT set types in Photoshop, especially for coloured types and small type size.
-
Use the appropriate typeface and DO NOT use menu-styling on Type 1 fonts.
-
Fonts used in EPS files can be converted into outline so that they are not required for outputting.
|
***Save a copy before converting so that the font name and size will be preserved for future editing. |
Trapping
If you are not sure whether you require trapping in your file or not, or are unsure of how to apply proper trapping, The Printing Korner will be happy to make the required adjustments to your file for a nominal cost. |
Associated Images (imported or placed EPS, TIFF, PDF)
-
Please make sure any TIFF picture boxes have a background fill other than NONE.
-
Please DO NOT use web images and JPEG (JPG) files as their resolutions are too low for quality output. Also, most web images are also trademarked and illegal for the public to use.
-
Please note that the resolution of photo scans should be 1.5 to 2 times the line screen to be used at 100% reproduction. For example, using 150 lpi as standard line screen for coated stock, your image needs 225 ppi to 300 ppi for quality printing.
-
Resolution of line art scans should be at least 1000 ppi for 100% reproduction.
-
Please DO NOT select JPEG encoding when saving your Photoshop file as EPS format or it will print as grayscale.
-
In order to avoid PostScript errors and longer output times, please DO NOT select LZW Compression when saving your Photoshop file as TIFF format.
-
Please rotate and scale images in the original applications before importing or placing your file into page layout files.
-
Please not that RGB images will print as grayscale only.
-
Please save your file in EPS DCS 2.0 format when using spot colour in Photoshop (version 5 and above).
-
Please set the flatness of clipping paths in Photoshop at no less than 3.
-
Please make sure all PDF files are press-option distilled and have fonts embedded.
|
Lines, Borders and Outlines
Please DO NOT apply hairline to drawings as they may print inconsistently or not at all. Also note that different programs define hairline as different weights. Thus, use a minimum of 0.1 pt. |
Items to Include with Your Final Output-Ready File:
-
TrueType fonts (both screen and printer fonts). Make sure to submit fonts used in vector files as well.
-
Associated files.
-
Hi-res scans for PO pictures.
-
Proofs.
|
***Provide at least Black & White Laser print or colour Inkjet Print at 100% |
